Course for Polysun Experts: Heat Pump Systems and Cascade Control Strategies

7. July, 14:00 - 15:30 CEST

Self-learning preparation + live session

Take your Polysun skills to the next level with this expert course designed for experienced users. You will explore the full range of heat pump system configurations — from combinations with solar collectors and PV arrays to ground-source loops and ice storage — and learn how to model both heating and cooling operation, maximise PV self-consumption, and optimise the control strategy of cascades serving multiple buildings or consumer groups.

Content:

Part I Heat pumps (Self-learning video)

  • Heat pump basics and characteristic curve in Polysun
  • Combination of heat pump with solar collectors and PV systems

Part II — Further Heat Pump Applications (Self-learning video)

  • Ground-source loop as a heat source
  • Ice storage as a heat source
  • Cooling systems

Part III — Live Session, 7 July 2026, 14:00–15:30 CEST Optimising Heat Pump Cascade Control Strategies

In this instructor-led session, we demonstrate step by step how to design and optimise the control strategy of a heat pump cascade supplying multiple buildings or consumer groups — a scenario typical for residential developments, district heating connections, and campus sites.

  • The programmable controller in Polysun: operating states, auxiliary values, inputs and outputs
  • Live walkthrough of a realistic multi-building cascade project
  • Comparing control strategies: fixed staging vs. demand-driven sequencing
  • Optimising flow temperature levels and switching thresholds per consumer group
  • Interpreting results: COP improvement, runtime distribution, and peak load reduction
  • Direct Q&A with the Polysun engineering team

Who this course is for

Planners and engineers who already work with Polysun and want to move beyond standard single-unit heat pump templates to more complex, multi-stage cascade systems.

The self-learning video recording (3 h) will be sent following registration confirmation.
