Junior Java Software Developer for simulation software of renewable energy systems

80%-100%

Our team:

We are currently a team of five developers in the Vela Solaris development department. We are passionate about developing high-quality, high-performance and robust software products in the field of renewable energy system simulation.  We focus on modern numerical concepts, automation of our lean development process according to DevOps with CI/CD pipelines and automated quality assurance. We review each other’s code with pull requests and take time for modelling-specific, architectural and technological discussions in order to reach consensus-based decisions together. To achieve this goal, we explore cutting edge approaches and technologies.

Your tasks:

The further development of the simulation software Polysun is your main task: Here you can optimally combine your skills in numerics and renewable energy systems with your interest in software development and develop new technological features.

  • You will work out the requirements together with your team colleagues and our product owners, for the further development of models and functionalities in Polysun and implement them directly. You will familiarize yourself with Polysun’s dynamic time-step simulation and gradually expand your expertise in model mapping.
  • Together with our senior developers, you will develop suggestions for improving the code to ensure the sustainable further development of the software.

Your profile:

The following skills and characteristics distinguish you:

  • You have in-depth expertise in the field of numerical modeling of renewable energy systems (electrical and thermal) and have a corresponding university or college degree or have the necessary practical experience.
  • You have a keen interest in physical processes and have already developed software (as a script or as an application) in the field of renewable energy systems (e.g. photovoltaics, battery storage, thermal energy systems).
  • You are enthusiastic about developing code and thinking about architecture and design.
  • If you already have Java and SQL knowledge, this is a plus.
  • You work independently and see yourself as part of a team, knowing that the best solution is created in collaboration with your team colleagues. You enjoy sharing your know-how.
  • You actively involve your colleagues in your work and support them in their concerns. In particular, you enjoy continuously developing your skills in the field of software engineering.
  • You are fluent in German and English.

Our offer:

We make sure that you can develop your full potential with us:

  • We take time for your smooth onboarding and train you on the job. We will support you in your wishes for continuous personal and professional development. In this context, we take the time to build up your knowledge of Java if you do not yet have any knowledge of this programming language.
  • You will constantly learn new things and take on extremely exciting tasks at the cutting edge of the energy, IT and construction industries.
  • Freedom of design and creativity are important to us – we make sure that you have the necessary space to do so.
  • With us, you will work in a modern working environment. You decide whether you want to use our central and friendly offices in Winterthur or work from home and also benefit from flexible working hours.
  • A top team awaits you. We support you with questions, are helpful and extremely competent.
